Yup, that's right!!!
Iraq won the Asia Cup, they beat Saudi Arabia 1-0 today to clinch the title. The only way CNN puts
soccer on the front page is if it has to do with the war. I am very happy for the Iraquis, I hope
they make a good showing in the World Cup.
Congrats!!

According to Soccer By Ives, Adu's deal with Benfica is finally done, Freddy is set to travel to
Portugal next week to finalize things. Freddy might play one more game with Real Salt lake, but
after that it he is Europe bound.
I am very happy to see Adu go to such a great league, he will get better there and do wonders for
U.S. Soccer by becoming a world class player.
Santacruz is a grea player and very physical. He has speed and can definately score, he also great
in the air. I think this is a great move for him, since he has been with Bayern for 8 years.
We shall see if he is going to get off to a good start in the EPL, I sure hope so.
Derby was also looking to hire Roque, but I guess Blackburn's deal was sweeter.
So Brazil has to show what the plan is to host the 2014 World Cup. So far, their argument has been:
"We are Brazil, we are good at soccer, look how good our players are..." Now, they have to actually
start talking about trivial things like: stadiums, infrastructure, e.t.c.
Brazil has some really bad stadiums in their major cities, and those same cities have some really
bad urban violence.
He is now calling over the lawyers to try and secure his release from Man-U. Furguson (Man-U) has
been very stubborn and has said he is not under any circumstances letting Heinze join their arch
nemesis liverpool.
Heinze is a firm favorite in London, if you don't know what a firm is, then go rent GreenStreet
Hooligans on DVD.
Word!
Claudio Pizarro is the latest player to join the Chelsea squad. He is a peruvian player that has
been in Germany playing for Bayern Munich the last few seasons. He is very very good, and I think
will be a great addition to the Chelsea team.
Get to know "El Bombardero" Pizarro:
Now Blanco has someone to pass the ball to. I think this is a great move, Wanchope is not the most
technical player, but he can sure score. He has played in Europe, Argentina and Japan to name a
few...
Welcome to the new "IT" thing in soccer, the MLS.
Here are a few highlights from him:
Here is a glimpse of what's to come. I think Barcelona have the most ridiculous offense...
Here are the highlights:
They tied with Boca Juniors yesterday with a PK goal by Mr. Freddy Adu. Boca's Boselli tied the
game with a header in the second half.
Here are the highlights:
RSL Goal:
Boca's Goal:
Eddie Johnson has turned down an offer to play in the EPL with Derby. Apparently the MLS was
being offered $3.6M to let Johnson go, but Eddie wants to stay and keep playing in the MLS. Peter
Vermes, the Wizard's technical director, said that he is very glad Eddie chose to stay, and that it
speak a lot about the level of our league. Vermes also said "Everyone says when our players get
good enough, they go to Europe.
Apparently the MLS was getting $2 M for the young player, but Benfica and MLS could not agree on
terms just yet, so Adu stays in Real Salt Crap. I think $2 M is a more appropriate number than
$7M, since Adu has really not done much since he has been in the MLS. It is true that he had a
great U20 World Cup, but he was overshadowed by tons of other great players that are dominant in
their home leagues.
And Guess who scored: Donovan! I know how could he possibly have done anything useful if he has
been playing like crap lately. Well, he did. Donovan had a beautiful assist to Gordon for the
first goal, and he kind of got in the way of Coby Jones' shot for the second goal, he touched the
ball and screwed up the goalie, 2-1 Galaxy.
This is actually quite impressive as Pachuca is a very strong squad, they are the current Copa
Suramericana Champions, and the current Mexican league champions.
According to Steven Goff of the Washington Post Freddy Adu is on the verge of signing with Spanish
club Benfica. MLS might earn up to $7.5 M for the 18 year old player. I think that is a little
pricey for a young kid that is talented, but has really done nothing in the MLS. I think Adu
could be a great player as long as he is developed by the right people.
I am not sure that I do just yet. Although, there is a $1 M purse for the winner, so we are bound
to see some effort.
From the US:
Houston Dynao
La Galaxy
D.C. United
FC Dallas
From Mexico:
Morelia
Pachuca
Chivas de Guadalajara
America I see Pachuca taking this one, Maybe Dallas can make a good showing, but I am not sure
about the rest of the MLS teams.
California has decided to ban the sale of Kangaroo leather shoes. Apparently sometimes the way the
creatures are killed is inhumane. This ruling may be short lived though as there are appeals in
progress and a lot of money being poured in by companies like Adidas to overturn the decision. the
Australian government sides with Adidas because they feel 25 Million Kangaroos is just too much,
and turning a few of those into Predator Soccer Shoes is just sound wildlife management.
Becks is out for tonight's game with Pachuca(mex) and possibly even Saturday's game against
Chivas(Mex).
I know he is hurt, you could see his ankle looked huge on ESPN (HD) this weekend. Maybe the MLS
should have just announced that he was delaying his debut a week or two, I don't know. I just hate
this whole Beckham watch thing.
The Galaxy suck anyhow, and It is kind of sad to make him play for that team, I think they should
get some better players before Beckham is allowed on the pitch.
So Tevez-Gate has still no solution. Today FIFA announced their decision:
"We don't want to decide, go ask the Court for Arbitration of Sport."
What a bunch of crap. i Hope this gets resolved before Aug 31st so Tevez can play.
This is up here only because I came across this video and I had to share. Watch this guy, he was
freaken amazing!!
Can you think of a better goalie?
Manchester was having some fun out there. Everyone scored, pretty much. Rooney's goal was awesome,
but I think the last goal was even better. Oh yah, and Ronaldo's goal was offsides.
