No Ronaldo? No Problem For United!

Red Rants at related • 4 views

There is no doubting the immeasurable void that's been left in the United side following the departure of one Cristiano Ronaldo. When you remove a player capable of scoring 42 goals in a single season, there's bound to be a gaping hole left behind. While Sir Alex clearly had no choice but to allow the Portuguese the chance to fulfil his dream of playing for Real Madrid, our trusty Scottish manager has undoubtedly had a major say on who potentially joins/has already joined the club this summer.

09/10 Manchester United Away Kit

The new United away kit has been launched today and is available for pre-order.

The 09/10 away shirt was leaked earlier and we saw then that it was based on the same template as the new home kit, using a blue V stripe on a black shirt for outfield players and a awesome looking blue shirt for keepers (with a black V stripe).

Jose Mourinho CAN succeed Ferguson at United

OK so it's hardly the best kept secret in European football but Jose Mourinho has admitted that he fancies a crack at succeeding Sir Alex at United. At 67-years-old, Ferguson clearly doesn't have too many more years of management left in him, but does the former Chelsea boss really tick all the right boxes?

United gravy train chugs back after Asian jaunt

Red Rants at related • 0 views

So after completing the Asian money-making exercise leg of the pre-season, United return to Europe with a stop in Germany (Munich, in particular) to play in the Audi Cup. This 'Cup competition' involves United playing two matches on Wednesday and Thursday (of this week). With such a demanding schedule, I honestly hope they are in the plane to Munich, like right now.

Ferguson rips into City, and also talks other stuff

I've been trying my best to sidestep the 'intelligent' mudslinging happening between the two Manchester clubs.[I am of course talking about this] It could be passed off as 'passion', and 'banter', but really it has got a lot more mileage than it deserved. But since Tim Rich continuing in what seems like a rather productive-looking Asian assignment for him pulled off a fantastic interview with the manager, I think I'll have to allow myself to be sucked into this.

Glazers defend Ferguson, and United’s Asian Invasion

This has been a topic I had been meaning to touch upon for a while but haven't until now.

Tim Rich, who seems to be The Guardian's man accompanying the United travelling party, has been doing his share of sending postcards from the far-east. Topics covered in his daily dispatches range from describing the boredom of our poor, grossly overpaid, footballers [boo, hoo.

United’s Malaysia Rematch

So the boys play another game today against the Malaysian XI to compensate for the loss of the Indonesian friendly. I wish I could look forward to it, but timezones don't help.

The manager looks to ring in changes. Owen is expected to get his first start, as are Fabio and Gary Neville.

Pre-season is always interesting to me because I get to see some of the new arrivals or youngsters.

United touchdown in Malaysia, dodge potential disaster

Update: United cancel Indonesia visit. Club working on revised itinerary outside Indonesia.

Every now and then we get hit by news that brings us down to reality. At the time of writing, nine people were killed in bombings of two luxury hotels in Indonesia.

It's more shocking if you realize United were scheduled to stay at the Ritz in Jakarta.

Ferguson’s comments on transfers, and he’s not stupid

Red Rants at related • 0 views

This post was long overdue, but for some reason we never got around to posting this.

It has become a matter of common knowledge by now that Ferguson has made comments that our business is done for the summer.

"It's the end of our business, so forget all these stories about who we're supposed to be getting.

While I work on getting a new post ironed out consider this a stub and a post to prevent the previous one from crashing (due to saturation with comments). Reply to comments from previous posts here, so that you don't spend too much time waiting for the page to load.

Meanwhile here are some good reads you must consider:

What purpose does United’s youth system serve?

Fraizer Campbell is the latest in line of the more prominent youngsters deemed not good enough to make the grade at United. He was sold at £3.5m (which could potentially rise to £6m). Financially, I think we sold him a bit on the cheap when Hull were prepared to offer up to £7m as a one time fee.

Thursday links and some pre-almost-weekend mumbling

This will be very short because I am not currently disposed to do a long one right now. So I'll share some links with you, mumble a few words under my breath and leave the stage to you.

The well respected Andy Brassell, the European expert on BBC's excellent World Football Phone-in, gives a favourable review of Gabriel Obertan on the official site.

Bordeaux: Obertan wants to play for United

Red Rants at related • 2 views

In today's transfer news, this has clear come out of left field.

According to Bordeaux president, Jean-Louis Triaud, Bordeaux midfielder Gabriel Obertan is on the verge of signing for us.

"There is a very strong likelihood that the deal will go ahead. Manchester United want to sign him and, for our part, we would be delighted to see Gabriel playing for such a prestigious club.

Carlos Tevez continues to spout venom

It seems some people find it hard to move on. We all acknowledge that sometimes, in a relationship, both parties might have been at fault and, like adults, we say what we have to say, and move on.

The relationship between clubs and players, players and managers and players and fans is not that different in essence.

Owen Signs, and he’s no Henrik Larsson

Red Rants at related • 9 views

It's official. The sun hasn't run out of hydrogen yet, most humans continue to work for a living, but Michael Owen somehow finds himself a Manchester United player.

To be honest, I've never felt so underwhelmed by a United signing when I first heard it. I've been intrigued by some of Fergie's buys but never so underwhelmed as I have been with this one.

Time to move on after Benzema snub

Red Rants at related • 2 views

United signed Valencia, but their intent to go blitzkrieg on the transfer market suffered a blow when Benzema opted to go to Real Madrid. Reports say they were willing to pay £6m more than us. This can mean either of two things: one, we were trying to play hardball with them while staying firm in our [new found] commitment towards not getting fleeced.
