By ADAM SERRANO It's been a good week for the Los Angeles Galaxy. After keeping
their hopes of advancing from the CONCACAF Champions League alive with a last second win against
Morelia on Wednesday, the Galaxy can clinch the Supporters Shield with a victory on Saturday.
Todd Dunivant has gotten used to flying under the radar.
As with most solid defenders, not hearing Dunivant's name called throughout a match tends to be
a good thing. While he does get like to get forward and provide service from the flank, the
30-year-old is cautious when choosing his overlapping runs.
There is no rest for the weary and no one knows that better than the quarterfinalists in the

Tim Howard and Everton's start to the season has not been a flawless one, but the Toffees could
get momentum rolling if they come up with a win in one of the weekend's marquee matches.
Everton hosts Liverpool on Saturday in the first Merseyside derby of the season, and Howard is
sure to be tested as he goes up against Luis Suarez, Andy Carroll, Steven Gerrard and the rest of
Liverpool's attacking weapons.
TSG Hoffenheim midfielder/defender Fabian Johnson won't be with the U.S. men's national team for
its October friendlies due to a neck injury, but he will be able to represent the United States in
the near future.
Johnson has had his one-time switch of association approved by FIFA, making him eligible to play

It isn't getting any easier for Carlos Tevez, especially after FIFA vice-president Jim Boyce

It's been nearly five months since Javier Morales suffered the gruesome ankle injury that
threatened to end his season, but the Real Salt Lake midfielder completed his comeback with a
substitute appearance on Wednesday night.
Overshadowed by CONCACAF Champions League action, Morales made his first appearance since May 7
by coming off the bench and playing the final 30 minutes in Real Salt Lake's 3-0 defeat to
The U.S. men's national team's roster for October's friendlies is expected to be released this
afternoon, and while we will find out soon enough just who Jurgen Klinsmann plans on taking a look
at in the upcoming matches vs. Honduras and Ecuador.
There have been several players who have stepped up in the week's following the last U.
It seems nothing can stop FC Dallas' current free fall.
Having been beaten in its last three games, Dallas was once again on the losing end on Wednesday
night, falling 5-3 on the road to Panamanian club Tauro FC in a wild CONCACAF Champions League
match that saw three red cards and two penalty kicks.
The first time Sporting Kansas City walked off the field after a match at Livestrong Sporting
Park, back on June 9th, the club was mired in a ten-match winless streak and buried in last place
in the Eastern Conference.
On Tuesday night, with those rough early days firmly in the rearview mirror, Sporting KC
completed a 15-week climb up the standings, into sole possession of first place.
The MLS playoff race in the Eastern Conference just became a little more intense, and we can
thank the Chicago Fire for that.
Midfielder Marco Pappa snapped a personal three-month scoring drought in dramatic fashion,
delivering a hat-trick to help the streaking Fire pulled off a stunning 3-0 victory over 10-man
Real Salt Lake at Rio Tinto Stadium on Wednesday night.
CARSON, Calif.--Â With their dreams of a place in the Champions League quarterfinals fading
fast, the Los Angeles Galaxy produced the same sort of late-game magic they produced the last time
they faced Morelia.
It's a big night for Major League Soccer teams both domestically and regionally. The Los Angeles
Galaxy and Colorado Rapids fighting for their CONCACAF Champions League lives, while FC Dallas
looks to take a giant step further toward advancing to the knockout stage.
In league play, Sporting Kansas City and Columbus meet in a crucial Eastern Conference battle,
while Real Salt Lake is expected to welcome playmaker Javier Morales back to the field at some
point during its match against the Chicago Fire.
The news went from bad to worse for Stuart Holden in a matter of hours.
Previously thought to be missing six weeks of action after needing a routine follow-up procedure
on his surgically repaired knee, now Holden is set to miss the next six months of action, according
to his club, Bolton.
Dwayne De Rosario has been on a hot streak that every fantasy MLS owner should riding. After a
disappointing first half of the season, he has become the highest-scoring field player in MFLS and
had one of the most impressive weeks of the season this past week.
CARSON, Calif.— The Los Angeles Galaxy have played in a number of big matches this season, but
all are dwarfed when compared to Wednesday's match against Monarcas Morelia in the CONCACAF
Donning a substitute's bib, Javier Morales went through the motions. Medically cleared to return
to action for the first time in months, Morales paced up and down the sidelines at RFK Stadium,
staying warm in case he was called upon to try and light a spark under Real Salt Lake.
The Seattle Sounders have gone unbeaten in Mexico and Central America in CONCACAF Champions
League group play this year, and now they are into the quarterfinals of the tournament for the
first time in the club's three-year MLS history.
The Seattle Sounders can cement a place in the CONCACAF Champions League knockout stage with a
win or a draw when they take on Comunicaciones in Guatemala. The game is a rematch of a 4-1
Sounders victory in the opening game of group play, when Michael Fucito scored twice while Seattle
was down a man.
Ashley Young spared Manchester United an embarrassing result with a goal in injury time as the
defending Premier League champions squandered a two-goal lead over FC Basel and were forced to
settle for a 3-3 draw in UEFA Champions League play at Old Trafford.
The Colorado Rapids could advance to the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Champions League by
winning both of their last two group matches. Even so, it looks like club is throwing in the towel
on its tournament run.
Colorado sent a reserve-heavy squad to face Isidro Metapan in El Salvador for Wednesday's match,
and head coach Gary Smith didn't make the trip, either, instead leaving assistant coach Steve Guppy
to handle the team.
Manchester United winger Antonio Valencia highlights the roster that Ecuador announced for its
upcoming World Cup qualifier against Venezuela and friendly against the U.S. national team. Veteran
midfielder Edison Mendez is also part of the group as is winger Jefferson Montero, a former
teammate of Jozy Altidore at Villarreal.
CARSON, Calif. – Juan Pablo Angel may have been in a slump with the Los Angeles Galaxy earlier
this season, but at Chivas USA the 35-year-old stiker has proven once again that he still has
quality minutes left in his tank.

The MLS season still has a month left to be played in it, but the wide-open MLS MVP race is
starting to dominate the headlines as contenders begin stepping up and making strong late-season
cases for the award.
Dwayne DeRosario is rising up the charts quickly, while other long-shot candidates like Dominic

Led by a resurgent Juan Pablo Angel, Chivas USA came back from a two-goal deficit to force a 2-2

Inter's early-season woes continued as Wesley Sneijder was ruled out of the club's upcoming
Champions League match with CSKA Moscow as he nurses a thigh problem. Sneijder's absence in
Tuesday's match is a big blow to Inter, which needs points after losing its Champions League
opener against Trabzonspor last week.
Dwayne DeRosario has been on fire in recent weeks for D.C. United, but what he did to Real Salt
Lake this past weekend was jaw dropping, even by his loft standards.
DeRosario scored a hat-trick AND added an assist in the first 31 minutes of play in Saturday's
4-1 mauling of RSL, giving him the league record for fastest hat-trick in MLS history and helping
him earn his latest SBI MLS Player of the Week honor.
Minnesota nearly bungled their way out the playoffs with a near-epic collapse towards the end of
the season but the Stars came up with a win when it counted, beating the Carolina Railhawks, 2-1,
to book a place in the postseason.
The Vancouver Whitecaps had the look of a team intent on winning their final game at Empire
Field, their MLS home during their inaugural season in the league. The Seattle Sounders looked like
a team doomed to be punished by a terrible start and an inspired opponent.
Unfortunately for the Whitecaps, they could only manage a single goal during their early-game
domination, which allowed the Sounders to recover from their slow start to rattle off three goals
and post a convincing 3-1 victory on Saturday night.
WASHINGTON -- The Los Angeles Galaxy and Real Salt Lake both trotted out reserve-laden lineups
Saturday night, aiming to preserve fresh legs through a congested schedule while hoping to eke out
road results in the thick of the postseason hunt.
CARSON, Calif. -- It wasn't too long ago that Juan Pablo Angel looked more ready to retire than
to start scoring goals again, but the Chivas USA striker has enjoyed a renaissance in recent weeks
that has him looking like the Angel of old.
It isn't often that a college soccer game headlines a day's action during the weekend, but
today's South Florida/West Virginia tilt has something for all.
Along with being two of the country's top teams, South Florida and West Virginia feature some of
the best pro prospects in the nation, with South Florida goalkeeper Chris Blais and West Virginia
centerback Eric Schoenle among the most highly-regarded prospects in college soccer.
WASHINGTON - In 65 minutes Saturday, D.C. United forward Dwayne De Rosario once again showed why
he is one of the most prolific attacking talents MLS has ever seen. At 33 years old and playing for
his third club this season, he could very well be better than ever.
The New York Red Bulls desperately needed a win on Saturday night and responded to that pressure
with one of their better performances in recent memory.
The Portland Timbers also came into the match needing a result, but played a flat first half and
saw a questionable penalty call and red card effectively end their chances of coming away from Red
Bull Arena with a result.
Playoff positioning -- and the 19th-century cannon/trophy known as El Capitan -- were on the
line Saturday afternoon at Pizza Hut Park, where the Houston Dynamo defeated FC Dallas 1-0 with a
late goal to claim this year's Texas Derby title.
The Major League Soccer season is winding down to its final weeks, meaning each weekend is
becoming more and more important with relation to the playoff race, and teams are facing more
important matches every weekend.
Tonight is no different, with a bunch of playoff hopefuls take the field in vital matches they
need to help boost their post-season chances.
For the first time in a long time, neither FC Barcelona or Real Madrid is in first or second
place in the Spanish First Division, something both Barca and Madrid will try to change with wins
Barcelona is currently sitting in fourth place after four matches, and faces a stiff test

recent disappointing results.

Sporting Kansas City dominated for stretches, and created more chances on Friday night at

The University of Maryland's overtime loss to Michigan in the NCAA tournament quarterfinals last

Rafa Marquez's controversial comments have cost him a spot in the lineup for the New York Red
Bulls' crucial match this Saturday against the Portland Timbers.
New York manager Hans Backe has suspended Marquez for the match after the Designated Player made
harsh remarks and belittled his teammates after the club unraveled in a 3-1 loss to Real Salt

Nobody has been able to slow down Manchester City's high-powered attack, but U.S. goalkeeper Tim
Howard will have a shot at doing so on Saturday, when the Toffees venture into the Eastlands to
take on City, which has scored at least two goals in every league game thus far.
As for a pair of American midfielders, Stuart Holden could be in line for his first Premier

Emirates to face vulnerable Arsenal on Saturday, while Michael Bradley aims for his second
consecutive start in Chievo Verona's home match against Genoa on Sunday.
When Sporting Kansas City and the Philadelphia Union square off at Livestrong Sporting Park

When goalkeeper Chris Blais' 2010 season came to a close, it did so a game earlier than he

U.S. international goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann is reportedly returning to the Premier League,
where he'll play a familiar role.
According to Sky Sports, Hahenmann is set to join Everton on a deal that lasts until January. A

the international stage plenty of times.
Dasan Robinson is on his third club in just a year, but he's ready to return to the form that

Bob Bradley is officially back in the coaching game.
Having been rumored to take over as head coach of Egypt's national team, Bradley has completed
his move to coach the Pharoahs. Bradley flew to Cairo and met with Egyptian Federation officials to
finalize the details of his contract on Wednesday, and the federation announced the deal was
completed on its website on Thursday.
Good luck trying to figure out the New York Red Bulls'Â problems.
With a full-strength starting 11 that featured two players who are each paid well more than Real
Salt Lake's entire roster combined, the Red Bulls were outclassed by their visitors from Utah on
Wednesday night, conceding three goals in the first 21 minutes before falling 3-1.
ALAJUELA, Costa Rica — The Los Angeles Galaxy were made painfully aware that earning road
points in the CONCACAF Champions League is no easy task, falling 1-0 to Alajuelense at the Estadio
Alejandra Morera Soto.
Pablo Gabas' free kick goal in the 28th minute of play handed the Galaxy their second straight
defeat in group stage play.
Winning was what they wanted. Losing was what they absolutely could not do. But a draw was what
happened for the Portland Timbers Wednesday night at Jeld-Wen Field, a difficult result to take
since Portland let its lead in the game slip away.
HARRISON, N.J. -- The New York Red Bulls are a sinking ship.Â
New York, after a gutsy win in Dallas on Saturday, had a chance to strengthen its playoff hold.
Real Salt Lake was without suspended midfield rock Kyle Beckerman and traveled cross country after
a hard-fought win against Sporting KC.
WASHINGTON -- Juan Pablo Angel's resurgent night nearly got offset by a questionable decision at
the worst possible time for Chivas USA.
That is until Dan Kennedy came to the rescue.
The Chivas USA goalkeeper saved a Dwayne De Rosario penalty kick in stoppage time, and Angel
scored twice in the second half to lift Chivas USA out of a two-goal hole and carry the Goats to a
2-2 draw with D.
The stakes are high when MLS teams take to the field in both league and CONCACAF Champions League
play Wednesday night.
D.C. United, Chivas USA, the New York Red Bulls and Portland Timbers are all fighting for spots
in the postseason and are all in need of results, while FC Dallas, the Los Angeles Galaxy and
Colorado Rapids all search for crucial CCL points.
Jose Francisco Torres was making plenty of headway for the U.S. national team, getting repeated
chances to start under new coach Jurgen Klinsmann.
All of that progress has hit a bit of an obstacle, though, with the word that the midfielder
will miss the remainder of Pachuca's Apertura season after suffering an injury to his fifth
metatarsal, according to Pachuca's official Twitter feed.
The Colorado Rapids and FC Dallas have a couple of things in common these days.
Both 2010 MLS Cup finalists are looking to avoid backing into the playoffs after recent dips in
form, and both are seeking CONCACAF Champions League victories Wednesday night that would set them
up in a decent position heading into the final games of the group stage.
Perhaps no point better illustrates how enigmatic the New York Red Bulls' season has been other
than the fact that the team could still conceivably win the Eastern Conference or finish outside of
the playoff picture altogether.
With only five weeks left, now is the time to use your remaining transfers and prepare for a
strong ending to the fantasy season. With six teams playing two games this week, there are plenty
of fantasy points up for grabs.
Toronto FC entered Tuesday's CONCACAF Champions League match with a must-win mentality, looking
to rebound from a heavy 4-0 defeat at Pumas last Sunday. A regular starting XI featured for Aron
Winter's side with hopes of a post group-stage round still remaining well alive.
SEATTLE – The Seattle Sounders went into Tuesday night's CONCACAF Champions League match
boasting a perfect record in group play, but badly needing rest for a squad feeling the fatigue of
a full fixture list. With that in mind, the Sounders trotted out a team of mostly reserves to try
and keep their group stage record undefeated.
It's a make-or-break night in the CONCACAF Champions League for Toronto FC. If TFC can't come up
with a home victory over Panamanian side Tauro FC at BMO Field, then the Reds face an extremely
difficult uphill battle in their remaining two Group C games. A win, however, would put Toronto in
a decent spot moving forward.
Stuart Holden's road to recovery is officially complete.
Having been sidelined since March with a devastating knee injury, Holden played in his first
official match of the season for Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday. The U.S. men's national team
midfielder started and went the distance in Bolton's 2-0 triumph over Aston Villa in the third
round of the Carling Cup, a promising return for a player looking to get back to the form that had
many considering him one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.
Normally a mid-week Serie A game wouldn't necessarily register on our radar, but when it happens

ALAJUELA, Costa Rica – David Beckham is expected to partake in the Los Angeles Galaxy's
CONCACAF Champions League match against Alajuelense on Wednesday, and his attendance has already
caused a stir in the local media.
This year's race for the MLS Golden Boot is congested, unclear and littered with a few surprise
candidates. With about a month remaining in the 2011 MLS season, there's no better time to break
down the prime contenders and see who will emerge from the pack with the most goals.
The well-oiled machine that is the Seattle Sounders keeps on rolling.
Facing a D.C. United team that had just come off gigantic victory and was looking to capitalize
on that momentum with the season winding down, the Sounders -- led by Alvaro Fernandez, Mauro
Rosales and Mike Fucito -- put together a complete effort to stymie United's attack, coast to a 3-0
result and earn SBI's MLS Team of the Week Honors.
Despite a tumultuous beginning to the Premier League season, Arsenal has no plans to part ways
with manager Arsene Wenger.
Former MLS deputy commissioner and current Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis spoke out on
behalf of Wenger, who is under even more scrutiny after the club's 4-3 loss to Blackburn over the
weekend dropped the team's league record to 1-3-1.
The playoff race is heating up, and so too is the charge up the SBI MLS Power Rankings.
Philadelphia and Houston each came up with important victories to make up ground in the Eastern
Conference and climb further into the top 10. Even late-charging teams Toronto and Chicago, for
whom the postseason is a longshot, are getting their due, with each moving up as well.
Few teams in Major League Soccer are as in-form as Real Salt Lake, which is on a four-game

When Darlington Nagbe was made the No. 2 overall pick in the 2011 MLS Draft it was widely
believed he was the most MLS-ready player in the draft, and the player most capable of making a
serious impact on the league.
Last Friday, Nagbe provided the latest bit of evidence to support those early opinions by
terrorizing the New England Revolution defense in Portland's 3-0 victory at Jeld-Wen Field.
With the UEFA Champions League and Europa League group stages getting underway last week and
most European leagues playing midweek games this week, managers across Europe saw their squads'

Colorado Rapids have lost four straight meetings at BMO Field when playing Toronto FC and added

It was the stellar Dutch striker, Danny Koevermans that piled on more misery for the Colorado

total in seven league appearances for the club.
BRIDGEVIEW, Ill – After watching a two-goal lead in the second half disappear in the span of
two minutes, the Chicago Fire looked destined for yet another late-game disappointment. Dominic

CARSON, Calif.-- The Los Angeles Galaxy showed no ill effects from their midweek loss in the
CONCACAF Champions League, beating the Vancouver Whitecaps in relatively easy fashion for the
second time this season.
Mike Magee scored twice and Robbie Keane tallied the other adding an assist as the Galaxy were
able to handle the Whitecaps, 3-0.
SEATTLE, WA - Seattle answered any questions about whether last week's disappointing loss to
Real Salt Lake would be more than a hiccup with a resounding 3-0 win over D.C. United Saturday.
In a clash of the old guard and the new rife with both playoff and Supporters' Shield
implications, Seattle (14-6-9) unleashed their characteristic attacking, aesthetically-pleasing
soccer in keeping the pressure on league-leading Los Angeles Galaxy.
Missing Thierry Henry and facing a strong FC Dallas side on the road, the New York Red Bulls
didn't look like a good bet to get the three points they needed to pump some sorely-needed life
into their fading playoff hopes.
No, the Red Bulls didn't have their star goal-scorer, or three fourths of their starting
