Danny Szetela has not signed with Roma, Brescia or even new player Newcastle United. At least
Conflicting reports have the Clifton-born midfielder headed to everywhere from Rome to England
but as of early this evening Szetela has yet to sign a deal with anybody. Sources close to Szetela
insist that the Columbus Crew midfielder has yet to decide where he will move to next.
You knew David Beckham was finished as soon as the challenge happened.
Beckham will be sidelined for up to six weeks with a sprained ligament in his right knee
suffered during the LA Galaxy's SuperLiga final loss to Pachuca on Wednesday night. It is an injury
that will force Beckham to miss England's upcoming European Championship qualifiers as well as most
of the remainder of the MLS season.
Word is trickling down early this morning that Clifton native and Columbus Crew midfielder Danny
Szetela is set to sign with Italian Serie B side Brescia. There are conflicting accounts about this
situation, with sources placing Szetela in Italy while other sources say no deal is done yet. What
is clear at this point is that Szetela's transfer future will be determined in the next 24
Atletico Madrid continued its busy summer transfer period by adding Argentine playmaker Juan
Roman Riquelme. Reports out of Spain are reporting that Riquelme is set to sign a two-year deal
with Atletico after spending last season with Boca Juniors following his falling out with
Riquelme will join Simao Sabroso, Diego Forlan and Jose Antonio Reyes as Atletico's top summer
additions, with Fernando Torres the big name to depart.
Good morning all. Nothing major going on in the European transfer front but one deal announced
this morning makes you wonder if an American will be on the move.
Fulham sold defender Zat Knight to Aston Villa for 3.5 million pounds, which could clear the way
for Fulham to add central defender Oguchi Onyewu. No, there aren't any reports surfacing on that
potential move yet but Fulham had been linked to Onyewu earlier in the summer.
David Beckham appears ready to play for the LA Galaxy in tonight's SuperLiga final against
Beckham and Landon Donovan are set to return to the lineup after missing the Galaxy's 3-0 loss
to Colorado with various injuries. Will that be enough to defeat the Mexican champions? I'm not so
sure about that one.
Rumors of Frank Yallop stepping down as Galaxy head coach have been swirling throughout the
weekend but Yallop is still in charge as of today.
You guys haven't lost your collective touch. There were some very funny entries for Monday's You
Write the Caption. The picture of Sepp Blatter wearing a size small uniform was classic, as were
some of your captions.
Here are the 10 best:
10. In a stunning turn of events, Grandpa Munster made his triumphant debut
from the grave, joining the Transilvanian National Team, only to be red carded for biting!
FC Dallas introduced its first designated player signing on Monday, hailing Brazilian midfielder
Denilson as a player second only to Beckham in terms of significance among the league's recent
Is he really? Yes, we all know he was once sold for a record transfer fee (which was nine years
ago and you won't find many people who will call that a successful purchase) and yes he is a World
Cup winner (though unlike the previous three world cup winners to sign with MLS, Denilson wasn't a
key figure on the World Cup winner he played for).
As promised, here are the rest of your questions from two weeks ago finally answered. Apologies
for the extended delay but you folks set a new record for questions and it coincided with a busy
time for me. I'll be sure to put a cap on questions next time so I can get the answers out more
Now, without further ado, your questions answered:
RAUL- You wrote about how the central defender for the Chicago Fire is on the
trading block and how Tony Sanneh rights are owned by the Rapids.
Good morning folks. Sorry for not posting sooner but I got caught up trying to finish off the
Q&A leftovers from two weeks ago. That will post later this morning so look out for that.
This morning I wanted to focus on the suddenly rejuvenated MLS playoff race. Just when the
playoff's eight teams seemed settled, we have had two teams re-emerge from their early-season
struggles to make things interesting.
If you're still in shock from this weekend's Red Bulls-Revolution match you aren't alone. The
game-deciding own goal left many speechless and left the Red Bulls wondering why they are so cursed
at Gillette Stadium.
If you actually missed the own goal when it originally happened you are not alone. Not only did
I not see the ball go in the net (I was typing away before hearing the loud roar from the crowd)
but Carlos Mendes didn't see it go in the net either.
Hello folks. We're about to kick off. Check here for a running commentary on the match:
PRE-GAME- The Red Bulls are 7-0-2 in their past nine meetings at Gillette
Stadium. Will they turn it around? It depends on whether Reyna, Mathis and Vide can win the battle
of the central midfield. Do that and they win.
PRE-GAME- Just came from the stands where the ESC and Kearny Army are
representing Red Bulls fans well.
To the surprise of no one, David Beckham will not travel with the Los Angeles Galaxy for their
upcoming road game against the Colorado Rapids. A source confirmed on Friday night that Beckham
will stay home and rest his injured left ankle.
Fresh off three full matches in a six day span, Beckham will not be able to recover in time for
Sunday's match and his status for Wednesday's SuperLiga final against Pachuca is in doubt.
Good afternoon all. Apologies for the lack of posts today but I'm heading to Boston for the Red
Bulls-Revolution game so I've been a bit busy. I did manage to crank out an ESPN.com column on the
sad state of the LA Galaxy. Not sure when that is running but keep an eye out for that this
With all the great soccer action on TV as well as some good MLS matches for people to attend I
couldn't help but wonder what you folks will be doing this weekend soccer-wise.
The start of the Serie A and La Liga seasons highlight this weekend's soccer TV action.
Barcelona, led by the trinity of Messi, Henry and Ronaldinho, will look to win back the title it
lost to Real Madrid last season. Juventus will make its return to the first division after a
one-year banishment to Serie A.
You name the big club and it will be on TV this weekend.
Kasey Keller has found a job and it is with a team that has shown an affinity for signing
Fulham has signed Keller, who should step in and become the team's starter. If you haven't seen
the amazing blunder by current Fulham goalkeeper Tony Warner last weekend you missed a real howler.
Regular starter Antti Niemi is injured, which means Keller could have a chance to play a key role
for the Cottagers.
Good morning folks. I'm sure you were expecting me to start the morning off with some comments
on either the US national team's loss to Sweden or the Red Bulls loss to DC United on Wednesday.
Those are coming. I wanted to start this Thursday off by talking about Real Madrid's construction
of a team that is now set to challenge Barcelona not only for the La Liga title, but the Champions
So much for the current US Under-17 national team being the best US team ever.
The Americans suffered their second straight loss in two matches on Thursday, dropping a 3-1
decision to Tunisia in the Under-17 World Cup in South Korea. A pair of first half penalties gave
Tunisia the lead and US penalty in the 90th minute was too little, too late.
When David Beckham walked off the field against the Red Bulls on Saturday, it was tough to
believe that he just played 90 minutes on the Giants Stadium turf. Even more mind-boggling than
that is the fact that Beckham played ANOTHER 90 minutes on Wednesday for England against
Despite the fact that Beckham could barely break a full sprint, England manager Steve McLaren
kept him on the field for the full 90 minutes in a friendly against Germany that England wound up
Hello all. We're close to kickoff here at RFK Stadium for the Red Bulls-DC United match. It
should be a good one.
Do not panic of Altidore's benching. It's mainly a move to get him some rest during a busy week.
In case you don't remember, Altidore wore himself out in the Galaxy game and could barely walk off
the field on Saturday.
Good afternoon all. We're getting close to kickoff and I figured I should get a post up on the
game where you all can place your comments on the match. I won't be able to do a running commentary
on this match but feel free to comment throughout the match.
(Okay folks, I tried this and got a great response a month ago. The the number of readers
growing so much each month I figured I would give it a try again to get more information on the
people reading this blog.)
You've heard about the SBI Mafia, but what remains unknown is where all the readers are checking
in from. There have been comments from all over the US, Europe and Asia.
Good morning all. I'll be in DC tonight for the Red Bulls-DC United tilt and I couldn't help but
wonder where most of you will be watching this afternoon's USA-Sweden friendly. The 2:30pm kickoff
isn't great for you 9-to-5ers out there but I know many of you will be sneaking out of work to see
this game live.
Where will you be watching? Let us know where you'll be checking the game out.
Good morning folks. If you're looking for some early-morning reading here is a link to my Herald
News column today. The column is on Saturday's match and why the Red Bulls need to capitalize on
For those of you wondering about how the English star is doing over in England, Beckham took
part in some light jogging in Monday's practice and looks like a long-shot to play.
Struggling EPL side Tottenham may have found the answer to spark its floundering attack. Reports
surfacing out of Europe have the London club making a move for Argentine playmaker Juan Roman
Riquelme. It may not help save manager Martin Jol's job, but acquiring Riquelme could help
Tottenham salvage a season that started terribly before last weekend's romp over Derby.
Good morning all. Here we are, two days removed from one of the most exciting and entertaining
games in MLS history and there is still so much to discuss.
You have David Beckham putting on a show, Juan Pablo Angel stating his case as the best forward
in MLS history, Jozy Altidore leaving us in awe over his skills at the ripe old age of 17 and Clint
Mathis reminding us that he is a big-game player.
The rumored Eddie Lewis to Derby County move has been completed.
Lewis joins fellow American Benny Feilhaber on a Derby squad that is off to a rough start in the
I still think it's safe to say that Lewis will come back and play for the expansion San Jose
team in 2008 but he will have at least one year to strut his stuff in the EPL after playing really
well in the lower levels of England the past few years.
Freddy Adu is getting a quick education in how different European soccer is from Major League
Benfica manager Fernando Santos was fired after one league match, a draw against newly-promoted
Leixos. That's right. One match. Santos should send his resume to clubs in MLS, where you can go
months without a win and still keep your job.
They came to see David Beckham, but were treated to much, much more. A crowd of 66,237 converged
on Giants Stadium to see Beckham play his first Major League Soccer match in the area on Saturday
night and he treated them to an early display of his magic, assisting on a pair of goals just eight
minutes into the match.
Little did the fans know that those early goals were just the start of one of the most exciting
soccer matches ever played here.
David Beckham will be in the starting lineup for tonight's match between the Galaxy and Red
Bulls. I just got the word from a good source. That should help to the already good buzz
surrounding tonight's match.
I'm at Giants Stadium and the fans are already out in full force. Should be a good day.
U.S. national team midfielder Michael Bradley started and played 90 minutes in Heerenveen's
season-opening scoreless draw with Willem II on Friday.
Fresh off a busy summer that saw him play well for the US national team at the Gold Cup and be
nominated for the Gold Ball Award at the Under-20 World Cup, Bradley has earned a starting role
with the Dutch club after a season in which he struggled for playing time.
U.S. national team left winger Eddie Lewis is leaving the disaster known as Leeds and is heading
to newly-promoted EPL side Derby County. Lewis will join fellow American Benny Feilhaber, who just
recently completed a move to Derby from Hamburg.
Lewis, Leeds player of the year last season, reunites with Derby coach Billy Davies, who was his
coach at Preston North End.
As you might have expected, tickets for Saturday's match between the Red Bulls and Galaxy are
The number of tickets already sold has gone past 60,000 and could reach 70,000 by Saturday
afternoon, especially given weather forecasts that are calling for a sunny afternoon followed by a
clear night. A strong walk-up crowd could result in a crowd comparable to the one that saw the Red
Bulls play Barcelona last year.
If you're tired of hearing about David Beckham then this isn't the weekend for you.
Beckham will be training with the LA Galaxy at Montclair State today at noon. After that he will
join Juan Pablo Angel and Jozy Altidore at a soccer clinic in Harlem at 3pm. He will then cap his
media tour with a press conference in Manhattan at 5pm.
If you were waiting to see what David Beckham did on Wednesday night before buying tickets for
Saturday's Red Bulls-Galaxy match you had better hurry. Tickets aren't likely to last much
Beckham's stunning goal and assist performance in Los Angeles' 2-0 win against DC United on
Wednesday served to re-ignite the buzz surrounding Saturday's match at Giants Stadium, making the
remaining 20,000 or so tickets that had been available a must-have.
David Beckham made his first start for the Galaxy a memorable one, delivering a picture-perfect
free kick goal (his first) and assisting on a Landon Donovan goal (his first assist) to help the
Galaxy beat DC United in the SuperLiga semifinal on Wednesday night at Home Depot Center.
Beckham left DC goalkeeper Troy Perkins helpless as he curled home a 27th-minute free kick from
30 yards out to give LA the lead.
David Beckham will play for the Los Angeles Galaxy tonight against DC United in the SuperLiga
semifinal at Home Depot Center. That is good news for Galaxy fans that have had little else to feel
good about recently. Or is it?
Beckham has yet to play in consecutive matches and the combination of playing tonight and having
to travel cross-country to come to New York on Thursday makes the chances of him playing at Giants
Stadium on Saturday slim.
Yes, I know, it has been two weeks since I posted the results of the SBI Fantasy MLS League but
here they are again.
Not much has changed at the top, with a lot of the same names holding places in the Top 10.
Hudson FC is still in top of the standings while Atletico SBI slipped to seventh after I failed to
change my lineup for the first time this season.
It is Wednesday and the first week of the English Premier League includes some quality mid-week
action. If you're lucky enough to be around a TV today, or can sneak away to a soccer bar, this
could be a good day to watch some soccer.
Here are the games on the EPL schedule today:
Chelsea at Reading (3pm, Fox Soccer Channel)
Bolton at Fulham (5pm, Fox Soccer Channel)
Sunderland at Birmingham
Manchester United at Portsmouth
Derby at Manchester City
Middlesbrough at Wigan
For you early birds, there is some morning action to take in.
As if Chelsea wasn't strong enough the Blues are moving closer to strengthening their weakest
position, right back, by signing Sevilla star Dani Alves. The Brazilian was left out of Sevilla's
Champions League qualifying match against AEK Athens, which is a clear sign that Alves is heading
out of Spain.
Glen Johnson is currently manning the right back position but Alves would be a considerable
We are eight days away from the U.S. national team's upcoming friendly against Sweden (Aug.
22nd, 2:30pm, ESPN2) and while we wait for an official roster to be announced we may as well start
thinking about who will be in the starting lineup for that match.
Since it is an international fixture date the US team should have all hands on deck for the
match, key word being should.
Former MetroStars and Red Bulls goalkeeper Tony Meola is ready to play soccer again in New
Meola is set to sign a deal to play for the New Jersey Ironmen of the Major Indoor Soccer
League. No word on the terms of the deal have been released yet but the team is expected to
announce the deal on Tuesday.
Meola spent the 2006 with the Red Bulls, posting a 2-9-9 record in his last of 11 MLS
In what has to be considered a shocking and exciting change of affairs, the US national team
will now be playing Brazil on Sept. 9th in Chicago rather than traveling to Mexico City to play
Mexico as originally planned.
Brazil, which will be making a mini-tour of the USA that week which will also include a match
against Mexico at Gillette Stadium, will bring a full-strength team to Chicago to face the US
So it's a day after watching Jozy Altidore record his first two-goal game as a pro and couldn't
help but think about the recent trend of young American players making the move to Europe and the
realization that Altidore will leave MLS far sooner than I ever expected.
As recently as five months ago I would scoff at people who suggested that Altidore was going to
leave MLS early.
Wayne Rooney is set to miss two months with a broken foot but Manchester United isn't quite in
panic mode. Why? Because the crazy guy pictured above has shown that he is capable of being a top
EPL goal scorer.
Carlos Tevez may look like a caveman but he has the skill to make up for the absence of Rooney.
At least that is what Manchester United is hoping for.
Just when you thought that Manchester United settling for a draw in their home opener was bad
enough, now there's word that star forward Wayne Rooney suffered a hairline fracture in his left
foot during the team's 0-0 tie with Reading.
Good thing for Man U that it signed Carlos Tevez, who should slide right in to Rooney's starting
The English Premier League season is set to get under way on Saturday and the SBI Fantasy EPL
League is shaping up to be a fun competition.
A grand total of 211 teams will do battle for SBI bragging rights. I think an incredibly high
number of invited participants actually signed up, somewhere around 95 percent. If you didn't get
an invite it was because I never got your email address.
Good morning all. Apologies for the lack of posts. I had to take a break and will be taking a
break today. Since I will be taking a break I figured I could have you folks take part in the
latest Question & Answer session.
Post your soccer questions in the comments section and I will provide some answers next
The long and shady transfer saga that took Carlos Tevez from West Ham to Manchester United has
finally been completed. Tevez will join the EPL champions in time for their opener against Reading
this weekend but it remains unclear whether Alex Ferguson will use him.
Now that this ordeal is over what do you make the deal? Share your thoughts below.
As you know by now the Herald News was the first to report that Clifton native Danny Szetela had
reached an agreement with AS Roma on a transfer. Here is an update on the deal:
AS Roma is set to sign Danny Szetela to a three-year contract worth somewhere in the
neighborhood of $1.2 to 1.5 million, which doesn't include the housing and car he will also receive
from the Italian club.
Young star forward Jozy Altidore expressed his interesting in a move to Europe after the current
season. In an interview with SBI earlier this week, Altidore stated that he will consider a move to
Europe if the right offer comes this off-season.
"It's something to definitely look at come the offseason; you just have to wait and see,"
With the English Premier League season set to kick off on Saturday I figured it was a good time
to ask you folks how you see the upcoming season shaking out.
Do you see Manchester United repeating? Will Chelsea return to the top? Does Liverpool have the
horses to beat them both? Did Manchester City and West Ham add enough talent to be considered
The nightmare continues. David Beckham has been ruled as doubtful for the Galaxy's upcoming
match against DC United at RFK Stadium on Thursday night, news that won't be received kindly by the
sell-out crowd expected to attend.
If you're wondering about the Beckham game at Giants Stadium. Last I heard there were 55,000
tickets distributed for the match, meaning many were still available.
Just when you thought Mexican phenom Giovanni Dos Santos had crashed down to earth after a
disappointing Under-20 World Cup, the young playmaker has responded by starring for Barcelona on
its tour of Asia.
Dos Santos scored the game-winning goal for Barca in a 1-0 win against Yokahama on Tuesday, just
a few days after scoring in the team's 3-0 win against a Chinese club.
As some of you found out about on SBI yesterday, members of the Red Bulls went to Central Park
to play against Steve Nash and one of his soccer teams in an informal game. Unfortunately for all
involved Central Park officials put a halt to the game.
Adam Spangler of This is American Soccer was there and chronicled the event.
Did you make your way to Central Park to check this out?
The SBI Fantasy EPL League is locked and loaded and as of midnight Tuesday there were 134 teams
registered to compete. I have sent out 190 invitations so there are still some stragglers who have
yet to register.
If you have yet to receive your invitation, or would like to join the league, please post your
email address below and I will send you an invite ASAP.
So I'm at Red Bulls practice today for a handful of interviews and I finish talking to Bruce
Arena outside on the practice field. As we're walking back up to the locker room Arena is greeted
by an older gentleman who shakes his hand. This man proceeds to ask Arena if Arena received his
resume and he tells Arena that he really believes he can do the job.
Red Bulls midfielder Sinisa Ubiparipovic trained today and looked pretty sharp doing it. He
showed no signs of having been in a car accident that left teammate Dema Kovalenko needing stitches
in his face.
Both players escaped serious injuries from the accident, which took place during the weekend.
Kovalenko did not attent practice and Bruce Arena said he didn't know when Kovalenko would return,
stating that what matters is that Kovalenko survived the accident.
Even though I knew the answer to the question I still asked Claudio Reyna about suggestions that
he would retire after the 2007 season. Reyna stated pretty clearly that he will come back in 2008
and think about his future toward the end of that season.
"I feel good right now and I've been able to play most of the season, except for some games
early in the season," Reyna said.
If you're in New York City this afternoon and want a chance to sneak a peak at some Red Bulls,
as well as NBA star Steve Nash, you might want to make your way to Central Park. A handful of Red
Bulls, including Juan Pablo Angel, will be facing off against Nash's soccer team in a very informal
scrimmage at Central Park at about 3pm.
The team isn't making this game public but it is happening.
Jozy Altidore is just 17 but he has already achieved a dream, making the cover of a video game.
Altidore has been chosen as a cover athlete for EA Sports' new FIFA 08 (The North American cover),
alongside Ronaldinho and Mexican goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa, becoming the second youngest athlete
to don the cover of an EA Sports game (Freddy Adu being the first).
Red Bulls midfielders Dema Kovalenko and SInisa Ubiparipovic were injured in a car accident over
the weekend. Sources say the players, who are roommates, avoided serious injuries and will be
evaluated this week to measure the extent of their injuries. Kovalenko did sustain an injury in the
accident while Sinisa is believed to have sustained lesser injuries.
Hello all, here are the answers to the rest of your questions
from the last Q&A session. Apologies for the delay:
JIG- What ever happened to Memo Gonzalez? Remember? He
was one of the stars of Freddy's u-17 team in Finland. I thought he was great, and then he got
drafted by LA and doenst even show up in the reserve box scores anymore.
That sound you hear is the European Soccer season fast approaching. Hide the women and children,
life as we know it is about to change.
Okay, so maybe you're not one of the many American-based fans of European soccer. If not then
count yourself lucky. Nothing can devour free time like trying to keep up with what's going on in
the EPL, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, Eredivise, Portuguese League, oh and the Champions
Hello all. I have sent out invitiations to all readers who requested to be included in the SBI
Fantasy EPL League. If you don't have your invite by Monday morning than let me know in a comment
below. Also, if you had yet to send me your info, and are interested in joining, simply post your
email address below and I will add you ASAP.
So here is the situation. The Yahoo Fantasy EPL site only allows leagues of 50 teams so I think
we're going to go in another direction.
The official Premier League fantasy game looks to be a solid alternative. The registration
process doesn't take long at all and doesn't require that you create some email account like Yahoo
does. It's pretty straight forward and it also has a few more toys than the Yahoo game, such as the
ability to create your own uniform and a team screen that lists all the players.
Good morning all. We're about 45 minutes away from the Community Shield match between Chelsea
and Manchester United, which marks the unofficial kickoff to the European soccer season.
Fox Soccer Channel is showing the game live. I was just going to watch the match without a
running commentary but I'll do a light commentary for those of you who can't watch the game (and
those of you who want to hear me take shots at Chelsea.
Okay, here's the deal. Private Yahoo leagues have a max of 50. That leaves us with one of two
options. We will either create a public league OR I will do a blind draw for the 49 slots in the
SBI Private League.
If we wind up only being able to do one main league I will have a second SBI league for another
49 owners. That would give us 99 slots.
So last night I'm tinkering with TIVO, trying to set the Community Shield so I make sure to tape
it when I find out Fox Soccer Channel is showing an England-Scotland match from 1979. At first I
wasn't going to watch it but I started watching today and can't stop.
So why in the world would a 28-year-old match be at all interesting? There are a variety of
Okay folks, I have sent out the invitations for the SBI Fantasy EPL League. I sent out 100
invitations and am not sure what the maximum allowed number of owners so I'll re-open this thing up
for those of you who didn't get me your information. The league already has 40 registered
If you want to join the league simply post your email address in the comments section below.
The Carlos Tevez transfer saga is finally over. Tevez has joined Manchester United after the
conflict between West Ham United and Tevez's agent, Kia Joorabchian. The deal is actually a
two-year loan deal that will cost Manchester United about 2 million pounds. Yes, just 2 million
Good luck trying to untangle the legal maze surrounding this confusing transfer.
In what is slowly becoming a public relations nightmare, David Beckham is set to miss another
game, this time his actual MLS debut in Toronto this weekend. He is traveling with the LA Galaxy
but reports say doubtful to play.
For those of you wondering, Beckham's New York bow is scheduled for Aug. 18th. With close to
70,000 expected to attend, there is a lot riding on him actually playing.
After a summer spent promising fans that big signings were on the way, AC Milan announced its
first major signing of the summer. It wasn't Ronaldinho or Samuel Eto'o. It is 17-year-old
Brazilian forward Alexander Pato. Milan purchased Pato from Brazilian club Internacional for $30.1
Don't be alarmed by the fact that Pato is 17. He turns 18 next month and will be able to play in
games for Milan after Sept.
Hello all. I'm about to hit the road (I'll be back tomorrow) so I figured I could update you on
a few things.
I will be doing a Fantasy EPL league. I haven't decided on which site or how we'll determine who
is in the league (since some sites have limits). What I can say is that the league will be free and
if I have to pick who is in the league I will definitely factor in involvement on the blog.
With the European soccer season fast approaching, and many of you reacting to my posting of the
Italian Serie A schedule, I got to wondering what European league SBI readers prefer to watch.
Personally, I used to prefer the EPL but last season I found myself watching La Liga more and
more. It's a pretty close call there. I watched my share of Serie A games but not as much as the
EPL or La Liga.
Some of you have inquired about an SBI Fantasy EPL League. It is time to start one.
What I want to hear is how many of you would be interested in joining a Fantasy EPL League and
more importantly, which Fantasy EPL site you all prefer. If there's enough interest then we'll do a
I will take all your feedback consideration and try to have something ready for Sunday or Monday
so you'll have a week to get ready.
Brian Ching scored the lone goal of the match to help Houston defeat DC United, 1-0, in their
SuperLiga match in Houston. DC United got some help from Club America though after America defeated
Morelia, 3-2, in the final group match of the SuperLiga Tournament.
The results mean Houston and DC join the LA Galaxy in the SuperLiga semifinals along with
Mexican champions Pachuca.
Heading into their two week break you would have expected the Red Bulls to do something about
their back-line, which is the most poorly populated defense since the Iraq army. What you probably
wouldn't expect is the team to be taking a look at a forward.
Well, Bruce Arena is doing just that. The Red Bulls are taking a look at Liberian forward
Francis Doe, who most recently played in Greece.
Italy's Serie A released its schedule for the upcoming season, meaning you can start planning
your trips to Italy and figuring out when you want to gather around with your fellow Serie A fans
for some group match watching.
Here are some of the highlights:
Inter Milan vs. AC Milan- Dec. 23rd and May 4th, 2008
