Newcastle United 1 - 4 Manchester United
It was literally a Ruud awakening today at Cardiff as Van Nistelrooy ended his nine-game goal
drought for Manchester United with a brace against a battered Newcastle team. Fergie claims the
criticisms of his team over the past week spurred them on to yet another FA Cup victory over the
Magpies.
Van Nistelrooy was keen to prove his critics wrong and reaffirm his status as United's top striker.
Manchester United have made the trip to Cardiff to face Newcastle United in the FA Cup semis, as
they look to retain the FA Cup. It is most probably our only remaining hope of silverware this
season, and while Quieroz has claimed that even winning the FA Cup will not make this a successful
season, it is still important that United salvage their pride by retaining the trophy.
Norwich City 2 - 0 Manchester United
Goals from Dean Ashton and Leon McKenzie gave the Canaries a surprise victory over Manchester
United. Over the last couple of seasons United has had a knack of losing to bottom placed clubs in
the Premiership. This has got to be one of the worst Premier League performances ever by Manchester
United, simply for the fact that United showed no spirit and desire to attack and score goals.
After last week's disappointing home performance against Blackburn, Fergie has conceded that he is
not afraid to make changes to his squad. Liam Miller, Jose Kleberson, Phil Neville and Alan Smith
featured in the reserves game against Everton, which ended 1-0 after Rossi scored from the spot.
Louis Saha featured in the game against Blackpool, and it was David Bellion who was on the scoring
sheet for the 1-0 victory.
Manchester United 0 - 0 Blackburn Rovers
It was another one of those games. We dominated the entire game, creating chances, but failed to
score. The result sees us slip into third place behind Arsenal on goal difference, and the sliver
of hope that we had of winning the title is now more miniscule than ever.
Both Wayne Rooney and Roy Keane saw their shots come off the post, and Mikael Silvestre had his
header cleared off the line.
Sir Alex has revealed that six reserves players are going to be axed, primarily due to plans to
scrap the Pontin's League squad. The six players named are Ramon Calliste, David Poole, Paul
Tierney, Ben Collett, Lee Lawrence and Steven Hogg. Of course this wasn't an easy decision for
Fergie to make, and he has even referred to this as "a nightmare".
