M16 0RA Archives for March 2005
The rumours all began with AS, a Spanish media source, who claimed that representatives of
Manchester United were in Madrid to have talks with Casillas' agent. Literal translations of the
article (an amusing read, I must admit) soon hit the desktops of several eager United fans. The
next day, The Sun as well as other English sources published the article, claiming that there was
indeed a linkup between Casillas and Manchester United.
Rio, Wes, Carroll, and Wayne decided to go to Manchester nightclub 'Tiger Tiger' because like most
people their age, they need to get their groove on. Upon reaching the club, they were asked if they
wanted a special section for themselves, but being the down-to-earth folks they are, they declined.
Now this is when down-to-earth becomes just plain naive.
Manchester United CEO David Gill today mentioned on a BBC radio interview that longserving manager
Alex Ferguson is "sackable". Of course, he wasn't suggesting anything, but merely pointing out the
obvious - of course Fergie is sackable. But of course, when the press hears the words "sackable"
and "Ferguson" muttered in the same breath, they blow things out of proportion.
Several news sources are reporting that Manchester United are set to announce a significant drop in
profits this term, which could strengthen Malcolm Glazer's takeover bid. Not good news for United
fans, who have been adamant to keep United away from Glazer's greedy hands. Over the past couple of
years, Glazer has cast a menacing shadow over United's on-field fortunes.
Manchester United 1 - 0 Fulham
Christiano Ronaldo gave us the lead in the first half after a good break, when he rifled in his
shot from 20 yards out. After the goal, United continued to dominate the rest of the half, but
failed to create any clear-cut chances. United failed to make it two in the second half, and that
put some pressure on United in the dying moments of the game.
Sir Alex Ferguson - Legend. What more can I say? Already one of the most successful managers in
history, Sir Alex has recently confirmed that he has no intention of retiring from his job. After
spending 19 years at the club and being an integral part of its meteoric rise in the early
nineties, Fergie now represents the face of Manchester United. Yet another season without a league
title has brought his critics back to the fore saying that his time is up, and that it is now the
era of managers like that arrogant prick Mourinho.
Manchester United have been drawn against Newcastle in the FA Cup Semi-finals, whilst Arsenal have
been drawn against Blackburn Rovers. This of course sets us up for a possible FA Cup Final game
against the not-so-mighty Gunners - what an exciting prospect!
Of course the Magpies aren't the easiest opponents around, and we would have been more comfortable
against Mark Hughes' Rovers.
Dutch winger Rafael Van der Vaart has admitted to a Dutch newspaper that he is ready to move away
from Ajax to join a new club. The young attacking midfielder/forward has been linked with
Manchester United several times in the past, and he has also been linked with United's rivals
Liverpool and Arsenal. He currently has one year left on his contract, but he claims that it would
be better for Ajax to sell him this summer so that they can avoid losing him for nothing.
With Roy Carroll stalling on his new contract, The Sunday People has grabbed its chance to sell a
few extra copies by suggesting that Real Madrid are interested in signing Roy Carroll on a free
transfer at the end of the season. Of course they don't want to replace Casillas, claims the
tabloid, they merely want to replace their backup keeper Cesar, who is set to leave in the summer.
