Liverpool look set to bolster their defense this summer, with Brendan Rodgers keen to add depth to the back-line. The manager is rumored to be interested in signing Real Madrid's Raul Albiol, as well as Lille's Lucas Digne, and the deals may be imminent.

Sky Sports understands Liverpool are ready to listen to offers for midfielder Joe Cole before the

Cole is back at Anfield after spending last season on loan at Lille and expressed his determination

Arsenal will be signing at least one defender this summer, that much is clear. With Squillachi's contract due to end and Johan Djourou hoping for a permanent move to Hannover where he is currently on loan, Arsenal have just three centre backs. Even if you think they are good enough, that leaves the Gunners one short in the squad, but most Gooners would agree that Arsene Wenger needs to sign a central defender who will improve the starting line up, not just be cover.
The January transfer window is always a disappointment for Arsenal fans. We start the month confident that we will strengthen in key areas to help us either build on our strong position, or to help us recover our season.
A week in and still no signings, we accept that it's hard to sign top quality players in January and it's a slow process.

Six teams have a chance to make it through to the last 16 of the Champions League with three slots still up for grabs.
With the final round of group games taking place this week, 13 of the 16 positions for the first knock out round have already been filled with Chelsea, Juventus, Benfica, Celtic, Galatasaray and FC Cluj competing for the final three places.
Arsenal have released their accounts which are looking pretty good, showing that Arsene Wenger should have a decent war chest to spend in January. Another interesting thing apparent from the figures is the news that the club have given up any hope of ever selling the South Korean international striker, Park Chu-Young.
Olivier Giroud and Gervinho are obviously very different types of players, aith Gervinho's game based around speed and fancy footwork. Even when he plays as a striker, he tends to cover a lot of ground and picks up the ball in wide positions to come running at the defence. Giroud is more of a traditional central striker with good upper body strength who takes up good positions in and around the box.

On Sunday, Ligue 1 leaders PSG are set to do battle with 10th-placed Lille. PSG have won five of their past six matches in all competitions and will be looking to pick up the full three points at the Parc des Princes. Lille have lost their past two matches and have endured an underwhelming campaign to date, so taking even one point from this fixture would be seen as a positive for the side.

Ligue 1 is ranked fifth in Europe behind Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga and Serie A but they have managed to attract a lot of star power recently, mainly just Paris Saint-Germain though.

As the calendar year 2012 comes to an end and with French football all wrapped up for another year, it's unsurprising to see that "Zlatan Ibrahimović'sParis St. Germain" are the club that have topped the French charts during 2012.
It's quite interesting to note that the three promoted sides Bastia, Reims and Troyes haven't performed very strongly in the first half of the 2012/2013 season.
Going into the Ligue 1 campaign, there were a few clubs expected to be able to challenge nouveau-rich PSG, and two of these such clubs are Lille and Montpellier. Lille lost lots of quality over the past two seasons when Gervinho left for Arsenal and Eden Hazard left for Chelsea, however they were able to buy French maestro Marvin Martin and Ivorian winger Salomon Kalou, two players expected to soften the blow left by the departure of Gervinho and Hazard.

I must openly admit that I was fearing Denmark would for the first time ever have two teams in the
CL. Not because I have anything against Denmark with two teams, but it depends on which two teams.
And while I think it is great FC Nordsjaelland will play their first CL ever, I am not in favour of
FC Copenhagen, so I was delighted when Lille won 2-0 in a hard-fought extra time match.

According to Sky Sports, current Lille player and ex-Chelsea man Salomon Kalou has announced both Liverpool and West Ham are in search of his signature this January.
