So in the 2nd Quarter Finals of the Euro 2012 competition the favourites Germany will face
perhaps the biggest underdogs left in the competition Greece, with the winner of this match heading
into a semi-final with either England or Italy.
Germany seem to be in a different class from other nations this year, comfortably winning their
group which included the likes of Holland (whom were surprisingly poor), Denmark (unsurprisingly
nothing special), and Portugal (occasionally excellent, more often average).
It's David & Goliath time in another cracker of a quarter and this tie is tastier than a plate
of Sauerkraut & Hummus with the economic climate adding to the drama, the run-down Greeks will
really want to get one over on their richly talented opponents.
Also, WHAT? We've really been spoiled with the tournament so far, and Saturday only enriched an
experience that's provided plenty of dramatic moments to this point. I say that as a neutral
yesterday was obviously painful for those who had a vested interest in the success of Russia or
Poland, and today will see two more teams end their run.
1. Giorgos Karagounis had every right to be furious to be booked for that 'dive'. He'll now miss
the quarter final, and the chance to break Theodoros Zagorakis' Greek caps record. 2. It's a
marathon, not a sprint. Greece looked dead and buried in both of their first two group games, and
yet they've still [.
The opening day of Euro 2012 produced some terrific moments, and given what's on tap today, it's
fair to expect another captivating day. We'll take a brief look back at how the first round of
action in Group A panned out, and then move along to a brief look at the action taking place in the
Ukraine in the most challenging group of the tournament.

Remember the name Carlos Velasco Carballo. The referee responsible for ending Sokratis
Papastathopoulos's further participation for two ridiculous called fouls as Greece went a man down
in the first half. Caraballo is obviously not a disciple of the Socratic method; more likely shock
and erratic, best describes his style of officiating.
The sixteen nations have now named their twenty-three man squads for Euro 2012. Three hundred
and sixty-eight players will travel to the tournament in Poland & Ukraine, some experienced, some
young, some with over hundred caps, some with none or very few.
The following table shows a list of Euro 2012 countries, the total number of caps in their
squad, the average caps per player, the number of international goals scored by the squad, the
average number of goals scored per player and finally the average goals per cap scored.
Nigeria vs Greece, Blaumfontein/Mangaung, June 16, Thursday
Nigeria is the fastest team in the World Cup.
They have some great speed in their forwards Victor Obinna and off the bench
Obafemi Martins and Peter Odemwingie which will be necessary to
break the doughty defensive mindset of the Greeks drilled by Otto Rehhagel.
Well, there has been quite a bit of discussion in the post AEKBaltimore put up. Since the match
alot has happened, most regarding the horrendous officiating at the match. But first, a review.
For everyone who has been following AEK you know how incredibly unlucky we tend to be,
especially when it matters most.
Greece, under command of Otto Rehagel played a very defensive game last night against Sweden yet it was still not enough to hold off Sweden who defeated Greece 2-0 in Salzburg, the birth place of King Otto.
Sotiris Kyrgiakos was being trained by Rehagel in the days up to the match against Sweden on man marking [.
szólj hozzá: Greece vs Russia 1:0 MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
This was a day talent took a backseat and words like "heart", "courage", "bottle" were used as
descriptives. In the end Russia flattered to deceive having won the statistical battle in every
department except in the one that really matters as one's mouth runs dry saying it.
Blanco's point blank hiting of the post on 10 min and a typical dubious penalty given to Pao in
the 30th min,care of a classical Karagounis "dive"(how are these referee's so gullible?)were enough
to destroy any beleif our players had of securing that Champions League spot.Yes,Pao scored a
second goal soon after but by then the damadge had been done.
Russia entered their final group stage match needing just a draw to secure qualification. That
seemed like a given to most considering how well the first-place team had looked offensively at
Euro 2012.
No one told Greece that.
Greece eliminated Russia from the tournament in stunning fashion, pulling out a 1-0 victory
courtesy of a first-half stoppage time goal from Giorgos Karagounis on Saturday.
Second place it is then. After a long and winding qualifying campaign Giovanni Trappatoni and
his Irish team did what was expected of them and finished as runners up in Group Eight behind
Italy. Suddenly the dark days of the Staunton era seem like a lifetime ago. Although certain
notables are still absent from the international setup our wily Italian boss has done what was
asked of him by his paymasters at the FAI.
Greece pulled off a genuine shock in Warsaw on Saturday night, defeating group favourites Russia
1-0, a result which put the unfancied Galanolefki through to the last eight at the
expense of both Russia and hosts Poland.
Russia came into the game knowing that a draw would be enough to see them through, but despite
the prompting of Andrei Arshavin and Alan Dzagoev, they couldn't get that vital goal.
Karagounis.
After months of scintillating football, tremendous goals and a fair bit of controversy too, the
Champions League reaches its climax in Rome on Wednesday but who could possibly take the crown of
goal of the tournament?
The ball has hit the net a total of 327 times in Europe's premier club competition this season
so there's certainly a fair few to choose from.
Another splendid day's action at the World Cup, suggesting that the negativity that characterised
many of the initial matches was merely opening-night nerves. Let's hope so.
Argentina certainly looked like the contenders they ought to be against South Korea, who fought
well but couldn't match the albiceleste in this sort of form.
We lined up like this: Blanco Edinho -Scocco Rikka Pilatsikas Basinas Juanfran -Ramos-Silva
Krygiakos Majstorovisc Saja Lagos went in for Edinho in the 65th, Kafes went in for Pilatsikas in
the 87th, and Alexopolous went in for Scocco in the 90th. Donis knows what he is doing. The 4-3-3
worked well for us.
Greece defeated Portugal yesterday in a match many were calling a replay of Greece's Euro 2004
victory. Also, just like in 2004, Karagounis scored the opener (in fact, he scored both of Greece's
goals). Portugal coach Scolari says the result is "normal."
